The walnut orchard

The Wellnuts walnuts are produced in our up-to-standard semi-mountainous walnut orchard, in the town of Amfikleia of Phtiotis, at an altitude of 300m, at the northeast foot of mt. Parnassus. The landscape is imposing, urging you to create an artificial ecosystem of matching beauty and perfection.

This is how, in this gorgeous riverside estate that looks at the mountains of the greek mainland, under the sounds of the running waters of Apostolià (a tributary of Kifissos of Boeotia), the singing nightingales and the rhythmic beat of woodpeckers’ beaks, we established, in 2015 and 2019, spread over 30 arable acres, 540 walnut trees, primarily of the Chandler variety.

Our orchard, even though it houses walnut trees, a self-cultivated endemic species that produces a geographically customary nut, boasts modern elements and high precision agriculture technology. More specifically:

  • watered by a river-fed aquifer well with automated underground drip irrigation
  • agrometeorological station that is part of the National Observatory’s network (meteo.gr)
  • irrigation controlled by humidity and temperature ground sensors that periodically transmit their data wirelessly to an estate computer
  • irrigation regulated remotely by taking into account the evapotranspiration data collected by the agrometeorological station
  • foliage humidity sensors have been set up, the readings of which, combined with various meteorological data collected from the agrometeorological station, are fed into a specially designed software that predicts diseases and enemies, developed by the U.C. Davis for walnut-growing
  • fog-sprinkler used in spraying, which contains an electronic controller that can regulate and modify the spraying dosage, to ensure even coverage and rationalized pesticide use
  • fertigation used in fertilizing, which is the most effective lubrication method for tree-growing, via the automated underground drip irrigation system

Our estate is visitable and car-accessible.
